About What is the difference between lithium-ion batteries and deep cycle batteries? I think there must be many people who have this idea, what about you?
Regarding the differences between the two batteries usedI want to briefly explain it in this article.
1. Difference in charging speed
・deep cycle battery
→ Cannot fast charge
→ Charging speed is about 10% to 20% of battery capacity
Take the S1XXX battery model equipped with a deep cycle battery as an example. When charging while driving,
It may only reach a maximum of about 10A to 20A (100W to 240W).
If using solar energy, a 100W solar panel can provide about 5A (60W) of current, and increasing the number of solar panels can reach up to about 20A.
Lithium Ion Battery
→ Can be charged quickly
→ Charging speed is the same as battery capacity
Take the RSXXX model equipped with lithium-ion battery as an example: Driving charging can reach up to 50A (600W)
The solar part is the same as the deep cycle battery, but the input limit can be up to 100A (1200W)
2. Difference in available power
・deep cycle battery
→ About 60% of battery capacity
The thing about deep cycle batteries is that the voltage drops the more power is used. So, take the S1XXX as an example: although it has a capacity of 1380Wh, only about 60% is actually available.
When usage reaches 60%, the voltage will drop below 11V, which is lower than the inverter's operating voltage, causing the inverter to automatically stop working.
Lithium Ion Battery
→ Approximately 95% of capacity
For lithium-ion batteries, as long as the battery capacity does not drop to 0%, there is no problem.
3. Tolerance to large home appliances
・deep cycle battery
→ When the deep cycle battery outputs more than 500W of high power, the voltage will drop.
For example, even though the voltage is 12.8V when fully charged, when running a 1000W appliance, the voltage drops to around 11.9V.
Therefore, when the battery capacity is reduced (the voltage has dropped), if high-power equipment is used, the voltage may drop too much, causing the inverter to automatically stop.
Although deep-cycle batteries can also be used in high-power devices, the key is that the battery has sufficient capacity and is used for a short period of time.
When using deep-cycle batteries to run large appliances, it is recommended to start the engine and charge at idle speed at the same time to ensure power supply. In addition, you should charge it in time after use so that you can use it with peace of mind next time.
Lithium Ion Battery
→ The voltage remains stable even during high-power discharge, so the entire battery capacity can be used with confidence to run large appliances.
4. Timing to recharge electricity
・Deep cycle battery
→After using electricity, it should be recharged as soon as possible and stored in a fully charged state.
If left without fully charging (for example, battery power is 60%, etc.),
Internal deterioration will accelerate,
Even deep cycle batteries quickly reach the end of their life.
Therefore, it is recommended that deep cycle batteries be used with solar panels.
in this case,
There is no problem with solar panels even if they are small in size, the key is to create an environment where recharge is always available.
·Lithium Ion Battery
→No specific timing is required to replenish power.
There is no problem even if the battery is placed at 30%.
However, it has a certain self-discharge phenomenon, so if you want to store it for a long time, such as a few months, be careful not to let the remaining power reach 0%.
5. Differences in lifespan
・Deep cycle battery
→After recharging 350 to 400 times,
Battery capacity will gradually decrease.
Recently, even after fully charging, I feel that the available power is reduced.
·Lithium Ion Battery
→After recharging 2000~3000 times,
Battery capacity will gradually decrease. Its lifespan is nearly 10 times that of deep cycle batteries.
6. Different installation directions
・Deep cycle battery
→Deep cycle batteries cannot be placed horizontally. Leaving it sideways can cause battery fluid to leak.
Of course, shaking and vibration in the car will not cause leakage, and even if it falls down, it will not leak immediately, but you need to pay attention during transportation.
·Lithium Ion Battery
→Can be used whether placed horizontally or upside down,
Therefore, the layout can be freely arranged during installation. Battery fluid will not leak.
How?
In terms of performance, lithium-ion batteries are clearly superior,
But as long as you pay attention to how to use deep cycle batteries,
It's enough for use,
And the best value for money.
When the inverter will be running equipment with a high continuous load rating for long periods of time, it is not recommended to use the same battery that powers a car or truck to power the inverter. If a car or truck battery is used for an extended period of time, the battery voltage may become depleted so that the battery does not have enough reserve power to start the vehicle. In these cases it is better to equip the inverter with an additional deep cycle battery (mounted near the inverter) and connected via a cable to the starting battery. It is recommended to install battery isolators between cells.
